Earlier this month I wrote a blog post about tear jerking movies, and Nicolas Sparks’ name came up twice. He seems to have a penchant for writing heart-warming and heart-breaking stories which turn into movies starring teenage pop stars. First there was Mandy Moore in A Walk to Remember, and now we’ve got Disney’s The Last Song with Miley Cyrus.
This should be a bit of a departure for Cyrus as most of her fan base is centered around her Hannah Montana personality. In The Last Song, she tackles more adult issues liked divorced parents and a summer romance.
It looks like a cute movie, and being based on a Nicolas Sparks novel, I’m sure it will do its best to wring a few tears from moviegoers. Alongside Miley Cyrus is Greg Kinnear (Flash of Genius, As Good As It Gets). I’ve always felt he was a talented actor who never quite got his big break. We know Cyrus will sell out the seats, so maybe Kinnear will finally get the exposure I feel he’s long deserved. Look for the movie around April 2, 2010.
