Scott Jangro’s blog on “thin” landing pages hits the mark. The reality is that there is enough money in manipulating Google results, even for a short period of time before being cleaned out, that it is a widespread reality. I hope my Mastermind pals read this and then maybe I can convince them to post a couple of links on their squeeze pages. Probably not though since the way they are doing it now seems to get the job done. We criticize Google a lot for messing with the status quo of search, but without this attention to the manipulation as it is actively being practiced, legitimate sites would have no chance. read on:
“I’ve noticed in the past few months lots of the sorts of stuff that got previously kicked, working their way back into the ads. “Thin” landing pages, or what I equate to the the sort of sites that Google considers low quality were back in force during September and October. Their updates are definitely one-time events, much like the algo updates in the natural search of prior years.
For now, it appears that a churn and burn approach will work. Move stuff elsewhere and ride out a few months until the next update. It works for many though I imagine that the updates will eventually evolve to more of an ongoing process, so enjoy (if I can use that word) it while it lasts.”
