On January 22, 2012, the Baltimore Ravens could taste their second Super Bowl. Just 60 minutes of play against one of the best teams in the National Football League. It was the Ravens against the New England Patriots in a game that kept everyone on the edge of their seats. But the rest was history. The Patriots went on to be defeated for a second time against the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLVI. As for Baltimore, the team now faces the strong possibility of playing their entire 2012 season without Defensive MVP and Ravens Linebacker, Terrell Suggs.
Apparently, Suggs was playing a little B-ball in Arizona this week and completely tore his Achilles tendon. Doctors say he’ll go into surgery next week, but the likelihood of his coming back before the end of the season is slim to none. This is one of those rare moments when coaches and owners start to question the allowances that they give to multi-million dollar players who give themselves over to extra-curricular activities. What if they hurt themselves and cost our season? Last year, the same controversy swirled around Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, when he was seen riding a skateboard down his own driveway. Word has it that the man who ratted Flacco out was his neighbor, Ravens free safety Ed Reed. The news was all over the headlines, but there was some sense to it all. In the case of Terrell Suggs, a little pick up basketball has now cost the team millions.
