Out of all of the films that are slated to come out over the next six months, Brooklyn’s Finest might be the one I’m most interested in.
That’s saying a lot.
I’m incredibly stoked to see Date Night, Percy Jackson & the Lightning Thief, Sherlock Holmes, Avatar, Kick Ass, The Wolfman, Season of the Witch, Letters to Juliet, Valentine’s Day, Prince of Persia, Daybreakers, Clash of the Titans, Exam, A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Crazies, The Book of Eli, Nine and Saint John of Las Vegas. Suffice to say, it’s going to be a busy movie-watching six months for me.
First, check out the amazing cast: Richard Gere. Don Cheadle. Ethan Hawke. Heck, let’s include Wesley Snipes, Ellen Barkin, Vincent D’Onofrio and Will Patton while we’re at it. You remember D’Onofrio, right? Private Pyle from Full Metal Jacket? Yeah, he’s in here too.
Let’s move on to the fact that Antoine Fuqua is directing Brooklyn’s Finest. You might remember the last time he and Ethan Hawke teamed up - Training Day. Hawke was nominated for an Oscar in that one.
Now let’s check the plot: Burned out veteran Eddie Dugan (Gere) is just one week away from his pension and a fishing cabin in Connecticut. Narcotics officer Sal Procida (Hawke) has discovered there’s no line he won’t cross to provide a better life for his long-suffering wife and seven children. And Clarence “Tango” Butler (Cheadle) has been undercover so long his loyalties have started to shift from his fellow police officers to his prison buddy Caz (Snipes), one of Brooklyn’s most infamous drug dealers. With personal and work pressures bearing down on them, each man faces daily tests of judgment and honor in one of the world’s most difficult jobs. When NYPD’s Operation Clean Up targets the notoriously drug-ridden BK housing project, all three officers find themselves swept away by the violence and corruption of Brooklyn’s gritty 65th Precinct and its most treacherous criminals. During seven fateful days, Eddie, Sal and Tango find themselves hurtling inextricably toward the same fatal crime scene and a shattering collision with destiny.
Sold yet? If not, watch the Brooklyn’s Finest trailer over at Apple. I’ll embed the video as soon as it’s available to do so. The movie is in theaters March 5, 2010.
